A Day of Service
A few simple signs and a whole lot of loving hearts and helping hands made a fun day of service. Someone estimated that we had about 120 people helping to clean up the garbage from the flood. It was so nice to see all of the kids so excited to help. A special thanks to Gary Clark for the use of his dump truck, caution cones, and for manning the bob cat. Thank you to the neighbor for the use of the bob cat and space for parking. Thank you Carol and Wanda for the coffee and banana bread. Thanks for those that brought trash bags. And a HUGE thanks to all of you who came a so willingly gave up your Saturday morning for a neighbor. Sorry to those that I did not get pictures of, but here are a few fun ones.

Flood NewYears Day 2009
New Years Day 2009, water crested the banks of the creek running along the back of this property and continued to rise until it was about 3 feet up the walls. The house shifted off its foundation and caused considerable damage to the roof. Dad, mom and 4 kids made it out safely and were able to stay with friends. The parents had to lower the kids out of the bedroom window and slosh through rising water up to their knees. The were able to get one vehicle out, but the water came up too fast to get the other one to higher ground. One 16 yr old german shepard also went with the family. The 20 yr old male german shepard got stranded on the porch for 2 days and hurt his paw, but seems to be OK.
As if to add insult to injury, the day of the flood was garbage day. The flood waters pushed garbage from up stream where it settled on their property. Large items such as wheelbarrows, washing machines, and tires, scrap lumber, hoses. . . littered the more than three acres of property. Smaller items hung in the trees 3-4 ft off the ground.
